Your Personal Hydration Score

A single number from 0 to 100 that tells you exactly how well you are hydrating each day.

Tracking glasses of water is a start, but it does not tell the full story. Vari's Hydration Score combines your water intake volume, drinking consistency throughout the day, activity level, local weather, and personal health data into one easy-to-read number between 0 and 100. A score above 80 means you are well-hydrated, 50-79 means there is room for improvement, and below 50 signals you need to drink more right away.

How Your Hydration Score Is Calculated

Total Intake Volume

Your actual water and fluid intake compared to your personalized daily target based on body weight, age, and sex.

Drinking Consistency

Evenly spaced intake throughout the day scores higher than drinking the same volume all at once, since your body absorbs water more efficiently in smaller amounts.

Activity Adjustment

Exercise, step count, and workout intensity are factored in. More activity means a higher target, and the score adjusts automatically.

Climate and Environment

Hot, humid, or high-altitude conditions increase fluid needs. Vari uses local weather data to recalibrate your target in real time.

Beverage Quality

Plain water scores highest. Coffee, tea, and juice count partially based on their hydration effectiveness and diuretic properties.

Historical Trend

Your 7-day rolling average provides context. A single bad day will not tank your overall score if your habits are generally strong.

Tips to Boost Your Hydration Score

  • Start your morning with 250-500 ml of water within 30 minutes of waking up to jumpstart your score.
  • Set reminders every 60-90 minutes rather than trying to drink large amounts at once.
  • Log every beverage including tea, coffee, and smoothies so the algorithm has accurate data.
  • Keep a water bottle visible on your desk or in your bag as a physical cue.
  • Check your score at midday. If you are below 40, increase your intake pace for the afternoon.
  • On workout days, pre-hydrate with 500 ml one hour before exercise to stay ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good Hydration Score?

A score of 80 or above is considered excellent. Between 50 and 79 means you are adequately hydrated but could improve. Below 50 indicates you need to increase your fluid intake promptly.

How often does my Hydration Score update?

Your score updates in real time every time you log a drink or when environmental data changes. You can watch it climb throughout the day as you stay on track.

Does coffee lower my Hydration Score?

Coffee counts partially toward hydration. While caffeine has a mild diuretic effect, research shows moderate coffee consumption (3-4 cups) still contributes to overall fluid intake. Vari applies a reduced hydration coefficient for caffeinated beverages.

Can I compare my Hydration Score with family members?

Yes. With Vari's Family Plan, you can view each family member's daily score on a shared dashboard, making it easy to encourage better hydration habits together.

Why did my score drop even though I drank the same amount?

Your score is dynamic. If the temperature increased, you exercised more, or you drank most of your water in one sitting instead of spacing it out, the algorithm adjusts accordingly.
